President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with the extended leadership of the Senate on Wednesday at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, where far-reaching decisions on urgent national matters were taken .
According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the meeting brought together top lawmakers, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro .
Also in attendance were prominent senators such as Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central), and Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central) .
The engagement followed an earlier executive session of the Senate, where lawmakers had reportedly deliberated on issues of national concern. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele confirmed that the meeting produced “far-reaching decisions” on matters described as urgent and important to the nation .
Other lawmakers present included Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu; Senator representing Kebbi Central, Adamu Aliero; Senator representing Gombe Central, Danjuma Goje; and Senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi .
While details of the specific resolutions reached were not immediately disclosed, the high-level engagement underscores ongoing coordination between the executive and legislative arms as the 2027 general elections approach .
Shortly after the Senate meeting, President Tinubu also convened a gathering with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House. The agenda of that session was not made public .
