Makinde Desperately Looking for VP Slot, Wike’s Aide Alleges

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of desperately pursuing a vice-presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections .

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Olayinka alleged that Makinde, whom he described as “partyless,” is now seeking political relevance outside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) .

“Now, he is threatening violence just because he has lost out in the PDP and he is desperately looking for the ADC vice presidential ticket,” Olayinka claimed .

Allegations of Violence and Unpaid Funds

Olayinka warned the governor about the gravity of inciting violence, even as a sitting governor, suggesting Makinde wants a repeat of the South-West “operation wetie” political violence of the 1960s .

The aide further accused Makinde of multiple failures, including failing to secure total control of the PDP, failing in his bid to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, and failing to account for the N30 billion he reportedly collected from the Federal Government to compensate victims of the January 2024 Bodija explosion in Ibadan .

Political Context

Makinde recently hosted a National Opposition Summit in Ibadan, where he warned against Nigeria drifting toward a one-party state and denied that the gathering was a “gang-up” against any individual or a launchpad for 2027 presidential aspirations .

The governor has previously declared that he is “qualified” and even “overqualified” to lead Nigeria, citing his two-term gubernatorial experience as evidence of his capacity .

As of press time, Governor Makinde had not issued an official response to Olayinka’s allegations.
