Senator Ibrahim Lamido, representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman in Isa South Ward, Isa Local Government Area, the lawmaker cited the persisting internal leadership crisis in the state chapter of the ruling party as the reason for his decision .
“This decision was not taken lightly,” the letter read. “The ongoing internal party crisis, suspicion and unfair party leadership style within the party in Sokoto State has made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my membership in good conscience” .
Lamido lamented that “persistent divisions, lack of cohesion, and unresolved disputes have significantly hindered the progress and unity that the party once stood for” . He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have served and contributed to the party during his time as a member.
Multiple sources have confirmed that Senator Lamido is set to pick the membership card of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) . The lawmaker had previously indicated that worsening insecurity in his constituency was a major factor driving his defection, noting that residents face daily threats of killings, kidnappings, and displacement by bandits .
Lamido had earlier told journalists in Sokoto that the move reflects the collective will of his constituents rather than personal political ambition, while acknowledging that ongoing legal disputes within the ADC would not deter his decision .
