Family Calls for Accountability After Condolence Visit

The family of Ben Agir, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member beaten to death by vigilantes in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, has demanded more than just sympathy. During a condolence visit by military authorities, grieving relatives insisted on full justice and a public apology from security agencies, arguing that the informal security group involved had acted with excessive and deadly force .

Agir, who was reportedly serving in Gombe State and visited home briefly ahead of his passing-out parade, was killed on suspicion of motorcycle theft. He was beaten into a coma after presenting his NYSC ID card, and later died at a hospital .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the Benue State Police Command has so far arrested two suspects: Terkimbi Abumswende and Joshua Adagim, while a third suspect remains at large . The Buruku LGA Chairman, Raymond Aondoakura, has condemned the killing and ordered the suspension of vigilante activities in the area pending a review of operational guidelines .

“This unfortunate act does not represent who we are as a people,” Aondoakura said, vowing that no one involved will be shielded from prosecution . The council has called for thorough investigations and assured the family of diligent legal action .
