Residents of Owerri, the Imo State capital, have raised alarm over severe flooding that has submerged homes and disrupted daily activities in several communities.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that many affected residents lamented the destruction caused by the flood, describing the situation as a major threat to their lives, property, and livelihoods. Some residents said the floodwaters invaded their homes, damaged household belongings, and forced families to seek temporary shelter.
According to the residents, the persistent flooding has also made several roads impassable, hindering movement and increasing the risk of accidents. They appealed to the Imo State Government and relevant emergency agencies to urgently intervene by improving drainage systems and providing relief materials to affected families.
Some residents attributed the recurring flooding to blocked drainage channels and poor environmental sanitation, while others called for long-term infrastructure upgrades to address the challenge.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the latest incident has renewed concerns about flood preparedness and urban planning in Owerri, with residents urging authorities to take proactive measures to prevent future occurrences and protect vulnerable communities.
