Members of the House of Representatives have called for immediate and expedited action on the establishment of state police following the alarming escalation of kidnapping cases across Oyo State, warning that the security situation demands urgent legislative intervention.
The lawmakers, visibly concerned by the growing wave of abductions terrorising communities across Oyo State, argued that the absence of a decentralised policing structure has left citizens dangerously exposed to criminal elements operating with disturbing boldness.
They stressed that the state police bill must be fast-tracked without further delay, insisting that community-based policing remains the most effective and sustainable solution to Nigeria’s deepening insecurity crisis.
“The people of Oyo State are living in fear. We cannot fold our arms while innocent citizens are being kidnapped daily,” a lawmaker declared during plenary deliberations.
The representatives urged the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to immediately deploy additional forces to Oyo State while the state police framework is being finalised.
As insecurity continues to ravage communities across Nigeria, the Oyo kidnapping crisis has once again placed the urgent need for state police at the centre of Nigeria’s national conversation.
