Six Oyo Reps Members Dump PDP for APM

Six members of the Oyo State House of Representatives have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the Action Peoples Movement (APM) in a dramatic political development that is sending fresh shockwaves through Oyo State’s already turbulent political landscape.

The mass defection, one of the most significant legislative movements witnessed in Oyo State in recent times, deals a fresh and damaging blow to the PDP’s already fragile structure in the state — coming at a time when the party is battling internal divisions and mounting pressure from opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The six lawmakers, whose defection significantly alters the balance of political forces within the Oyo State House of Assembly, cited a combination of factors for their decision to leave the PDP — including deep dissatisfaction with the party’s internal governance,
lack of respect for democratic principles, and a belief that the APM offers a more credible and people-centred political platform.

The Action Peoples Movement (APM), which receives the defecting lawmakers with open arms, is expected to leverage their legislative presence and constituency networks to rapidly expand its political footprint across Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political observers in Oyo State say the defection could trigger further exits from the PDP, as restless lawmakers and party members watch the unfolding political realignment and recalibrate their own 2027 strategies accordingly.

The PDP leadership in Oyo State is under intense pressure to respond swiftly and decisively to the defections, with many calling on the party to urgently address the internal grievances driving its members toward the exit door before the losses become irreversible.
