Popular Nollywood actor and activist, Emeka Ike, has issued a strong and public threat of action against an aide of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in connection with the growing controversy surrounding the alleged INEC voter data leak — a scandal that has sent alarm bells ringing across Nigeria’s political and civil society landscape.
Emeka Ike, known for his outspoken advocacy on governance and citizens’ rights, expressed outrage over the alleged exposure of sensitive voter data, describing the development as a dangerous and deliberate assault on Nigeria’s democratic infrastructure and the privacy rights of millions of registered voters.
The actor declared that he would not stand by while the personal data of ordinary Nigerians is allegedly weaponised for political purposes, vowing to pursue every available legal and civic avenue to hold those responsible fully accountable for their actions.
“This is not just a political matter — it is a fundamental violation of the rights of every Nigerian whose data has been compromised. Those behind this must face the full consequences of the law,” Ike is reported to have stated.
His threat against Wike’s aide has injected fresh fuel into the already explosive INEC data leak controversy, drawing widespread attention from lawyers, activists, media personalities, and concerned Nigerians who are demanding urgent answers about how sensitive voter registration data was allegedly accessed and potentially misused.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) are already conducting a joint investigation into the alleged breach of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal, but critics argue that the pace of the investigation needs to match the urgency and gravity of the situation.
Civil society organisations have backed Emeka Ike’s stance, calling on all Nigerians to resist any attempt to compromise the integrity of the country’s electoral data ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Legal experts say if the allegations are substantiated, those found culpable could face serious criminal charges under Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act and other relevant legislation protecting citizens’ data and electoral integrity.
