The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by former factional National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, seeking recognition as the party’s scribe.
Justice Mohammed Umar dismissed the case on Tuesday following confirmation that Anyanwu’s tenure expired in December 2025, rendering the matter obsolete.
Anyanwu had sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and former PDP acting Chairman Umar Damagun, seeking injunctions to bar INEC from accepting PDP correspondence not signed by him.
His lawyer applied to withdraw the suit, citing the expiration of his client’s tenure, but the defense requested dismissal with costs.
The court dismissed the suit without awarding costs, stating the delay was not the fault of any party.
The ruling adds a new chapter to the prolonged internal PDP dispute over the national secretary position, which previously saw rulings from the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
