Immigration Sets Record Straight: No Religious Organisation Linked to Passport Payment Collections

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has moved swiftly to debunk circulating claims suggesting that a religious organisation has been authorised or is otherwise linked to the collection of payments for Nigerian passport processing.

In a firm and unequivocal statement, the NIS described the claims as entirely false, misleading, and capable of causing public panic and confusion among passport applicants across the country.

The Service stressed that all legitimate passport payments must be made exclusively through its officially designated and government-approved payment platforms, warning Nigerians to remain vigilant against fraudsters exploiting religious or community trust networks to extort unsuspecting applicants.

Immigration authorities further urged members of the public to report any individual, group, or organisation — religious or otherwise — found soliciting passport-related payments outside of official channels to the nearest NIS office or law enforcement agency.

The debunking comes amid growing concerns over passport racketeering and touting syndicates that have continued to exploit desperate applicants seeking to beat long processing delays.
The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to transparent, accessible, and corruption-free passport services for all Nigerians.
