Rivers APC Crisis: Screening Committee Disqualifies 65 Pro-Fubara, Tonye Cole Aspirants

Port Harcourt – The Rivers State APC House of Assembly Screening Committee has recommended the disqualification of 65 aspirants loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former governorship candidate Tonye Cole.

According to the committee chaired by Hon. Muraina Ajibola, the affected aspirants were barred over inducement and attempted bribery of committee members, submission of unsworn affidavits, failure to present voter cards or party membership slips, conflicting dates of birth, and irregular party membership numbers.

Others cited are insufficient nominators (less than three per ward), invalid affidavits that failed to disclose NECO certificate particulars, and inconsistencies in names across submitted documents.

In a sharp contrast, 33 aspirants loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike were cleared to participate in the party’s primaries.

The development deepens the ongoing leadership crisis within the Rivers APC, as supporters of Governor Fubara have condemned the process as biased.

The party is yet to issue an official statement on the Rivers APC screening committee disqualification report.
