Security Crises Force President Tinubu To Cancel Foreign Trips

ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has cancelled his scheduled diplomatic missions to South Africa and Angola, choosing to remain in the country to oversee the security response to the recent mass abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi and a deadly church attack in Kwara State.

The decision, confirmed by the Presidency on Wednesday, underscores the severity of the security challenges confronting the nation. The President was scheduled to attend the G20 Summit in Johannesburg and an African Union-European Union Summit in Luanda.

Presidential spokesman Chief Ajuri Ngelale stated that President Tinubu is awaiting comprehensive briefings from security chiefs and Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State, on the ongoing operations to rescue the victims of both attacks.

The cancellation highlights the administration’s prioritization of the domestic security emergency, which has seen 25 students kidnapped from their school in Kebbi and a worshipper killed alongside multiple abductions during a church service in Kwara.

Security forces have launched extensive search and rescue operations in both states, with the President demanding daily updates on their progress.
