IKWUANO – Ikwuano Local Government Area has risen to 5th position among Abia State’s 17 LGAs in PVC registration, following a successful community-driven mobilization campaign that added approximately 20,000 new registrants to the voter database.
The “Project Boost Ikwuano PVC Registration” initiative, which mobilized residents to the INEC office at the council headquarters in Isiala, has been hailed as a significant civic achievement, though organizers believe the LGA could reach first position with expanded support.
CDA News reports that the project Convener Prince Prico Kelechi Odinkemere confirmed the ranking based on authentic INEC data, noting that the Mayor of Ikwuano, Dr. Anthony Nwaubani, had personally verified the achievement.
“Imagine if the project was not paused, given the fierce coordination that conveyed people to the INEC office – by now, Ikwuano would have been first, not fifth,” Odinkemere stated, while calling for more community support.
The initiative, which relies entirely on private sponsorship for logistics, has been supported by notable Ikwuano sons including Kachi Umekwe, Chuks Amaonwu, Chika Isionwu, and IK Nzeribe, who provided transportation to facilitate registrations.
With the mayor confirming no available government funds for the project, organizers are appealing to more Ikwuano indigenes to sponsor logistics to extend the mobilization to all villages in the LGA.
CDA News gathered that the project leadership includes Mrs. Juliet Kenn-Ndubuisi as Secretary and Mazi Kachi Umekwe as Adviser, alongside several other committed members from various professional backgrounds.
