“Politics Is a Game, Not a Fight” — Kwankwaso Explains Why He Walked Away From Atiku and ADC

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has offered a candid explanation for his departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and his political split from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, insisting that his decision was purely strategic and not driven by personal animosity.

Speaking publicly on the matter, Kwankwaso, a former two-term Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, said he bears no grudge against Atiku, describing politics as a game that demands constant repositioning based on prevailing realities and long-term goals.

“Politics is a game. I am not fighting anybody,” Kwankwaso stated, dismissing speculations that his exit from the ADC was fuelled by bitterness or betrayal.

The NNPP leader explained that his political movements have always been guided by the best interests of his supporters, particularly the millions of Nigerians in the North-West who look up to him for leadership and representation.

Kwankwaso’s departure from the ADC and his subsequent alignment with the NNPP ahead of the 2023 elections had sparked widespread political debate, with many analysts questioning the timing and implications of the move.

His latest remarks are seen as an attempt to clear the air and reframe his political narrative as he positions himself and his allies, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi, for the 2027 general elections.
