ABUJA — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cleared the air regarding his controversial meeting with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
Speaking with journalists during an inspection of ongoing road infrastructure projects across Karu, Apo-Karshi, and Kubwa on Wednesday, Wike firmly debunked spreading defection speculations.
He made it clear that he does not practice “politics of enmity”.The closed-door meeting at Yilwatda’s Abuja residence had sparked widespread panic.
It coincided directly with the heated internal crisis and mass disqualification of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s loyalists in the Rivers State APC House of Assembly screening.
However, Wike explained that his interaction with the ruling party’s chairman was entirely rooted in long-standing personal association and professional courtesy. He added that both leaders had known each other closely before Yilwatda assumed his current party office.
“We were colleagues before he left for the chairmanship of APC,” Wike stated.
“Should I now hide anytime I see him? Political affiliations must never stop cordial relationships.”Wike further revealed that the private visit was simply a reciprocating gesture.
Yilwatda had previously made multiple attempts to visit the FCT Ministry but was unable to meet due to tight bureaucratic schedules.
