Ekiti Police Command Dismisses Sergeant Over Illicit Drug Use, Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Misconduct

The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed a police sergeant from the Nigeria Police Force after the officer was found guilty of illicit drug use, in a stern demonstration of the Command’s commitment to maintaining discipline and professionalism within its ranks.

The dismissal was confirmed by the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, who disclosed that the affected sergeant was subjected to a thorough internal disciplinary process before the verdict was reached and the dismissal order executed.

According to the Command, the officer’s conduct was found to be a gross violation of the Nigeria Police Force’s code of conduct and a direct betrayal of the sacred oath taken upon enlistment, adding that such behaviour has no place in a professional law enforcement institution.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, in a statement accompanying the announcement, described the dismissal as a necessary and unavoidable consequence of the officer’s inexcusable misconduct, stressing that the Command operates a strict zero-tolerance policy toward drug abuse, criminal behaviour, and any form of conduct capable of bringing the force into disrepute.

The Commissioner further warned serving officers across the state to conduct themselves in accordance with the law and the Force’s regulations, cautioning that indiscipline of any kind would be met with swift and decisive action regardless of rank or length of service.

The development has been welcomed by residents and civil society groups in Ekiti State, who urged the Command to sustain the momentum of internal discipline and ensure that only officers of sound character and integrity remain in service.
