The Rivers State Police Command has taken decisive disciplinary action by dismissing five police inspectors from the Nigeria Police Force following their alleged involvement in criminal activities, including armed robbery and kidnapping.
The development was confirmed by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, who stated that the affected officers were found culpable after a thorough internal investigation conducted by the Command’s disciplinary machinery.
According to the police command, the dismissed inspectors were alleged to have betrayed their oath of office by actively participating in criminal enterprises they were sworn to prevent, bringing severe disrepute to the Nigeria Police Force and undermining public trust in law enforcement.
The Command stressed that the dismissal was carried out in strict accordance with the Police Service Commission regulations and the Force’s disciplinary procedures, adding that no officer found to have compromised the integrity of the force would be shielded from appropriate consequences.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, while reaffirming the Command’s zero-tolerance stance against criminal conduct among officers, warned that any personnel found to be colluding with criminals or engaging in unlawful activities would face the full weight of disciplinary and legal action.
The development comes amid heightened concerns over internal rot within the police force in Rivers State, a region that has witnessed significant security challenges in recent times.
Residents and civil society groups have applauded the Command’s action, urging authorities to go further by prosecuting the dismissed officers in a court of law.
