Nigerian Court Grants Former Kaduna Governor El-Rufai N100 Million Bail

A Nigerian court has granted former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai bail in the sum of N100 million, in a ruling that has drawn widespread attention from political and legal observers across the country.

The court, in granting the bail application filed by El-Rufai’s legal team, attached conditions which the former governor must fulfil before securing his release. The presiding judge held that the applicant had met the threshold required for bail to be granted at this stage of proceedings.

El-Rufai, who governed Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023 and later served briefly as a minister before defecting from the APC, has been at the centre of a legal storm that many observers regard as one of the most politically charged cases in recent Nigerian judicial history.

His legal team expressed satisfaction with the ruling, while prosecutors are expected to continue pressing their case. The matter has been adjourned to a future date for further hearing.
