A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, a fresh bail of N200 million in his ongoing alleged cybercrime trial.
Justice Mohammed Umar, who delivered the ruling on Tuesday, ordered Sowore to provide two sureties before the bail can take effect. The court ruled that one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from his community, while the second must own landed property within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The judge also directed Sowore to deposit his international passport with the court registrar pending the conclusion of the case. Both sureties are expected to be verified by the prosecution.
Following the ruling, the court handed Sowore over to his lawyers and adjourned the matter until July 6, 2026, when he is expected to open his defence.
Sowore is facing prosecution by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations linked to social media posts that allegedly violated cybercrime laws.
