Kano Government Demands Arrest of Former Governor Ganduje Over Alleged Militia Plan

The Kano State Government has called for the immediate arrest and investigation of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, accusing him of attempting to create an illegal militia group.

The demand was made by the State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, following a State Executive Council meeting. The government alleged that Ganduje and the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, made inflammatory statements about the state’s security and announced plans to recruit 12,000 individuals into a religious police outfit named ‘Khairul Nas’.

The council described the utterances as “reckless” and capable of undermining state and federal security efforts, linking them to recent bandit incursions in border communities.

In a swift response, Ganduje dismissed the allegations as “baseless” and a reflection of the current administration’s incompetence, accusing Governor Abba Yusuf of abandoning his duty to secure the state.

The Deputy Senate President also challenged the government to provide evidence of his alleged inciting statement.
