Obi Unfazed by Jonathan Threat, Insists Focus Remains on Rebuilding Nigeria

Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has remained calm and undeterred amid growing speculations that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential entry into the 2027 presidential race could upend his ambitions.

Obi spoke after undergoing a presidential screening exercise at the national secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja, which lasted over two hours. Punch

Reacting to reports of Jonathan’s possible presidential comeback, Obi said he was unconcerned about who might contest against him, stating: “I’m not in any way going around looking for who and who is contesting. I’m concentrating on how to build a better Nigeria.”

Obi said his focus remained firmly on national unity, security, economic revival, and the fight against corruption.

On the state of ordinary Nigerians, Obi was blunt: “So many Nigerians today go to bed not knowing where the next meal will come from tomorrow. That must change.”

Meanwhile, Jonathan has been screened by a faction of the PDP as a presidential aspirant for 2027, though a Federal High Court is expected to rule on his constitutional eligibility on May 26, 2026.

As Nigeria’s 2027 race intensifies, Obi appears resolute — eyes forward, politics aside.
