Abia APC Endorses Chief Donatus Nwankpa As Consensus National Welfare Officer Candidate

UMUAHIA, NIGERIA — The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed Chief Donatus Nwankpa as its consensus candidate for the position of National Welfare Officer ahead of the party’s forthcoming national convention scheduled for March 28, 2026 .

The endorsement was announced following a meeting involving the party’s State Working Committee and the 17 Local Government Area chairmen, where party leaders unanimously agreed to present Nwankpa as the sole candidate for the position .

State Secretary of the party, Chief Chidi Avuaja, confirmed that the position of National Welfare Secretary has been zoned to Abia State and that the party leadership in the state has endorsed the incumbent to retain the position . He explained that Nwankpa has served in the role for several years following the death of the former National Welfare Secretary, Chief F. N. Nwosu .

The Assistant State Secretary of the party, Comrade Benedict Godson, thanked party leaders for supporting the consensus arrangement, noting that the State Working Committee unanimously agreed to present Nwankpa as the party’s consensus candidate .

Party leaders expressed confidence in Nwankpa’s ability to serve effectively, citing his demonstrated commitment and experience within the party structure . The endorsement reflects the party’s broader strategy of maintaining continuity and stability within its National Working Committee ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nwankpa, who currently holds the position at the national secretariat of the party, has been vocal about the party’s unity and preparedness for future elections, previously declaring that the APC in Abia is “not in any compromise with any party” and is determined to give President Bola Tinubu overwhelming majority votes in 2027 .

The party also disclosed that two additional positions—Ex-Officio and Youth Leader—have been zoned to Abia State, with the zonal convention scheduled to hold on March 26, ahead of the national convention on March 28, 2026 .
