IKWUANO, NIGERIA — The Executive Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Area, Mr. Anthony Nwaubani, has filed a N3.1 billion defamation lawsuit against three individuals, including Mr. Isdore Onyekachi of Amizi Oloko, over an online news report alleging financial impropriety and poor leadership in the council as the third defendant.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the lawsuit stems from a news report authored by Icheku and published on Dailyledgernews.com titled: “Ikwuano LG Boss, Nwaubani Snobs Inquiries on Financial Impropriety, Poor Leadership Allegations”. The publication alleged that N19 million was siphoned from the coffers of Ikwuano LGA under Nwaubani’s watch .

The total demand amounts to N3.10 billion .
CDA News Nigeria reports that Nwaubani is also praying the court to grant a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing defamatory statements against him, in addition to a retraction of the said story and a public apology. He alleged that the words used in the publication were false and defamatory .
In a swift reaction to the suit, which was served to Mr.Isdore Onyekachi says is a welcoming development as the council boss now drag a party leader to court inspite his contribution to the development of labour party Ikwuano.
Since the matter is im court, We are praying that the court as a temple of truth were the constitutional requirement of transparency and accountability .
The suit, numbered HC/Il/2026, is expected to test the boundaries between defamation law and press freedom in Nigeria, particularly regarding reporting on public officials and allegations of financial misconduct. The involvement of Mr. Isdore Onyekachi, a resident of Amizi Oloko, and activist Asiegbu suggests the case may also touch on community activism and citizen-led accountability efforts in Ikwuano LGA.
