Abia Government Counters Deputy Speaker Kalu, Accuses Him of Destroying State School Project

UMUAHIA – The Abia State Government has issued a sharp rebuttal to Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, accusing him of ordering the demolition of a state government project and disregarding due process in his constituency.

In a strongly-worded press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Alex Otti, the government countered Kalu’s recent public remarks about extending collaboration. The statement detailed that Governor Otti had previously allocated a large parcel of land for a housing estate project Kalu attracted to Bende LGA as a “mark of support and goodwill.”

However, the government alleges that Kalu’s agents later demolished the Eluokwu Community School in Igbere, which the state government had already awarded to a contractor for upgrade to a smart school. The government described the demolition as a “deliberate affront” carried out with “flagrant disregard to all known conventions of decency.”

The statement asserts that after the state sealed the demolished site, Kalu “ignored all channels of resolution” and reported the matter to federal authorities in Abuja, who reportedly admonished him for his actions. The government contrasted this with Governor Otti’s approach of seeking “appropriate approvals” for federal projects in the state.

The release concluded by sarcastically referencing Kalu’s earlier political invitation, stating, “now that the Deputy Speaker has… ‘shut the door,’ one may also advise that he leaves a window open.”
