Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and APC House of Representatives candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as necessary measures to reposition Nigeria for long-term growth and stability.
According to CDA News Nigeria, Orji made the remarks in an article titled “The Great Recalibration: How President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Is Restructuring Nigeria for a Stronger Tomorrow.” He argued that the Tinubu administration inherited deep-rooted economic challenges that required bold and difficult policy decisions.
Orji said the removal of fuel and electricity subsidies, the unification of the foreign exchange market, the clearance of the FX backlog, and reforms in the oil and gas sector were aimed at restoring fiscal discipline and attracting investment.
He also highlighted initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) programme, the Nigeria Industrial Policy and the Renewed Hope Ward Development Plan as part of the administration’s broader economic agenda.
While acknowledging that many Nigerians are facing economic hardship, Orji maintained that the reforms are comparable to medicine that may be painful initially but would produce lasting benefits.
He further noted that international institutions, including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), have recognised improvements in Nigeria’s macroeconomic stability, while stressing that the success of the reforms would ultimately be measured by job creation and improved living standards.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Orji urged Nigerians to assess the Tinubu administration based on the long-term impact of its policies rather than the immediate challenges associated with the ongoing reforms.
