In what is being described as Nigeria’s most significant anti-narcotics breakthrough, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has smashed a transnational Nigerian-Mexican methamphetamine production syndicate, arresting 10 suspects and seizing drugs and precursor chemicals worth a staggering N480 billion.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), disclosed at a media briefing in Abuja that operatives of the agency’s Special Operations Unit carried out coordinated operations in Ogun and Lagos states on May 16, 2026, leading to the discovery and shutdown of the largest clandestine methamphetamine laboratory ever uncovered in Nigeria, located in Abidagba forest in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The laboratory was allegedly operated by the Anochili Innocent Drug Trafficking Organisation. Seven suspects were arrested at the forest site, including three Mexican nationals — Martinez Felix Nemecto, 46; Jesus López Valles, 40; and Torrero Juan Carlos, 51 — alongside four Nigerian accomplices. In a simultaneous operation, NDLEA operatives raided the Lekki residence of alleged cartel kingpin Anochili Innocent at Golf Estate, Lakowe, Lagos, where he was arrested. Follow-up operations on May 18 led to the arrest of two more suspects at properties linked to the syndicate.
Operatives recovered 2,419.48 kilograms of methamphetamine and precursor chemicals, with a street value of $362.9 million — approximately N480 billion.
Marwa warned: “No matter how deep into the bush you hide, no matter how secure your gated estate is, the NDLEA will hunt you down, disrupt your networks, and seize your ill-gotten wealth.”
