PENTAGON, USA – American A-10 Warthogs and AH-64 Apache attack helicopters have launched devastating strikes on Iranian naval vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as the US military escalates Operation Epic Fury to secure one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes.
According to the Pentagon, A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft have been deployed to hunt and destroy Iranian fast-attack boats and mine-layers attempting to block the strategic waterway through which approximately 20 percent of the world’s oil passes. Over 120 Iranian vessels have reportedly been neutralized in the campaign.
“The Warthog is proving its worth, turning swarms of IRGC speedboats into scrap metal with its 30mm GAU-8 cannon,” a US defense official stated.
AH-64 Apache helicopters are also engaged, using Hellfire missiles and chain guns to destroy one-way attack drones and militia targets, providing persistent overwatch to keep the strait open for global commerce.
The operation follows recent Iranian threats to disrupt shipping and a series of escalating exchanges between Israel and Iran in the region. The US military described the campaign as a message to Tehran that disruption of global energy flows will not be tolerated.
Iran has yet to issue an official response to the US strikes.
