APC Conducts Nationwide Presidential Primary Across 8,809 Wards to Re-elect President Tinubu as 2027 Flagbearer

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is today, Saturday, May 23, 2026, conducting its landmark nationwide presidential primary election across all 8,809 wards in Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCR) seeks to be returned as the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general elections.

The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, confirmed that the party adopted the direct primary system for the exercise, with all registered APC members across the country’s wards eligible to vote directly for their preferred presidential aspirant.

The presidential race features two aspirants — incumbent President Bola Tinubu and Stanley Osifo, a trader from Edo State — who is the only challenger standing between the President and the party’s 2027 ticket.

All 31 APC governors have thrown their full weight behind President Tinubu’s return, with Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma declaring that all APC-controlled states are united behind the President and committed to marketing his administration’s record to secure re-election.

Across the states, APC structures are mobilising massive voter turnout. The Anambra State APC Chairman pledged that his executive committee would go out en masse to supervise, monitor, and ensure that Tinubu emerges victorious in the state, describing the President’s administration as one of “good governance and all-inclusiveness.”

Results from the nationwide ward-level exercises will be collated and officially declared at the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, on Sunday, May 24, 2026, beginning from 10:00 AM, in a ceremony strictly limited to key APC stakeholders and designated guests.

President Tinubu, in a personally signed message ahead of the primaries, described the exercise as more than a routine political process, calling it “a referendum on our unity, resilience and strength as a party” and urging all party leaders to provide a level playing field for all aspirants without bias or hindrance.

CDA News Nigeria will provide full coverage of the results declaration tomorrow from Abuja.
