A brewing political storm is threatening to tear apart the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, as a group of elders under the banner of Central Senatorial Zone APC Elders has raised a loud alarm over an alleged conspiracy to impose a preferred candidate for the Adamawa Central Senatorial seat ahead of 2027.
The group alerted President Bola Tinubu to an alleged plot by leaders of the party in the state to buy time and prepare a favoured aspirant for the senatorial contest, after the APC senatorial primary election scheduled for Monday did not hold in Adamawa Central Zone. Punch
The postponement, announced by state APC Publicity Secretary Victor Dogo and attributed to logistical reasons, has been viewed with deep scepticism by many party stakeholders.
The APC elders alleged a plan by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to impose the incumbent Senator Aminu Iya Abbas on the zone.
The group’s spokesman warned that the Central Senatorial Zone, as host to the state capital, has over 500,000 registered voters capable of influencing the outcome of elections, and that any imposition could cost the APC dearly against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in 2027.
Governor Fintiri, however, dismissed the allegations, insisting the primary elections conducted so far had been generally credible, attributing minor hitches to human error.
Political tension in Adamawa continues to escalate.
