Abuja – Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a motion at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to dismiss the six-count charge brought against her by the Federal Government.
The Senator, representing Kogi Central, labeled the charges an abuse of power and an attempt to shield Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello from public scrutiny.
In her motion, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan argued that the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) acted contrary to constitutional mandates by initiating a prosecution that serves private and political interests rather than the public good.
She cited Section 174(3) of the 1999 Constitution, which requires the AGF to act only in the “public interest, the interest of justice, and to prevent abuse of legal process.”
The lawmaker stated that the charges, filed on May 22, 2025, stem from a personal and political rivalry. She attached newspaper publications as evidence, describing them as “public records that reveal the true nature of the person of the Senate President.”
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan concluded that the case is a misuse of public resources to settle personal scores and silence criticism.
