Abuja – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has firmly dismissed allegations of a promotion scandal within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Speaking at the decoration of 19 newly promoted senior officers in Abuja, IGP Egbetokun stated that all promotion exercises under his leadership have been transparent and merit-based.
The Police Chief described recent reports of irregularities as unfounded rumours spread by “mischief makers” aiming to tarnish the Force’s reputation.
“The Nigeria Police Force has nothing to hide and nothing to defend,” Egbetokun said. “Truth stands taller than rumours. Every promotion exercise under this administration has followed due process—transparent, merit-based, and in strict conformity with established standards.”
He emphasized that the Force remains committed to a system that rewards “diligence, professionalism, and proven capacity,” adding that there is no place for nepotism.
The IGP charged the newly decorated officers, including Deputy Inspector General Mohammed Dan-Kwara and Force Medical Director AIG Nkechi Eze, to see their promotion as a call to greater responsibility and to embrace intelligence-led policing.
