Anambra to Enforce Pro-Rata Salaries for Workers Over Monday Sit-At-Home

AWKA – The Anambra State Government has introduced a strict measure to curb compliance with the Monday sit-at-home order often enforced by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a circular issued on Tuesday by the state Head of Service, the government stated that from February 1, 2026, civil servants who fail to report to work on Mondays will be placed on pro-rata salary payment, meaning they will only be paid for days worked.

The decision, according to the government, is aimed at restoring full economic and social activities on Mondays, which have been repeatedly disrupted across the Southeast.

The government also urged workers to ensure regular attendance and assured that adequate security measures are in place to guarantee their safety.

Reactions have been mixed, with some groups describing the policy as punitive, while others support it as a necessary step toward normalizing weekday activities in the state.
