In Senate Screening, Gen. Musa Highlights Unified Database as Key to Security Victory

During his Senate screening, Defence Minister-designate General Christopher Musa presented a comprehensive security blueprint, identifying Nigeria’s fragmented data systems as a fundamental weakness and calling for a unified national database as a game-changer.

General Musa argued that separate databases operated by immigration, banking, and other agencies create gaps exploited by criminals. He advocated for a single system to track offenders, trace ransom payments digitally, and deactivate bank accounts linked to crime.

Outlining his strategy, Musa vowed “no negotiation with any criminal” and called for a total ban on ransom payments. He emphasized that military force (kinetic efforts) constitutes only 25-30% of the solution, stressing the need to address poverty, poor governance, and a slow justice system.

Other key points included withdrawing soldiers from routine checkpoints for targeted operations, banning illegal mining that funds armed groups, and expanding maritime security operations.
