Police Detain Four Suspects Over Military Uniform in Abia State

The Abia State Police Command has detained four individuals for allegedly wearing military uniforms without authorization, raising concerns over impersonation and potential security risks in Abia State.

According to police sources, the suspects were apprehended during a routine patrol in Umuahia and surrounding areas. The authorities said the individuals were found in military-style attire and could not provide valid identification or justification for possessing the uniforms.

“The suspects are currently in our custody as investigations continue. We are committed to preventing unlawful impersonation of security personnel, which poses a serious threat to public safety,” a police spokesperson said.

Officials explained that wearing military uniforms without authorization is a criminal offense under Nigerian law and can be linked to various illicit activities, including fraud, intimidation, or criminal operations.

The police have urged members of the public to report any suspicious activity involving the unauthorized use of military or security uniforms. They emphasized that cooperation between citizens and security agencies is crucial for maintaining law and order.

Analysts note that such arrests serve as a deterrent to would-be impersonators and reinforce the need for vigilance among residents. The suspects are expected to face prosecution in accordance with applicable laws once investigations are completed.
