Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared that the people of the state will not bow to intimidation ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
According to CDA News Nigeria, the governor’s remarks came shortly after the Osun State Police Command confirmed the release of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Teslim Igbalaye, from police custody.
Igbalaye and five others were earlier detained following a police raid on his private residence in Osogbo. The police alleged that cash, Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and a voters’ register were recovered during the operation, describing the items as being linked to suspected vote-buying offences. Investigations into the allegations are ongoing.
Although Adeleke did not directly comment on the detention of the SSG, he insisted that no amount of harassment or external pressure would force the people of Osun State to surrender their democratic rights.
“Throughout the history of Osun State, our people have never bowed to intimidation. We are resilient, determined and fiercely protective of our rights,” the governor said.
He added that he remained confident the will of the electorate would prevail, maintaining that opinion polls indicated strong public support for his administration ahead of the election.
CDA News Nigeria independently verified that the police confirmed the SSG’s release. CDA News Nigeria reports the news gathered from the report, while awaiting the outcome of the ongoing police investigation into the alleged electoral offences.
