The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police Force of compromising their neutrality ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to CDA News Nigeria, the opposition party alleged that recent developments have blurred the line between state institutions and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), raising concerns about the credibility of future elections.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC questioned reports that a faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), led by Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, had been engaged by INEC for election logistics.
The party also criticised the reported attendance of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police at the launch of the pro-Tinubu City Boy Movement, arguing that security agencies must remain politically neutral.
The ADC urged INEC to publicly clarify the reported logistics arrangement, warning that the involvement of individuals perceived to have political affiliations could undermine public confidence in the electoral process. It also called on the Inspector-General of Police to explain whether the commissioner’s attendance at the political event was officially authorised.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the ADC said it would formally write the INEC Chairman seeking clarification, insisting that the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process depends on the independence and neutrality of democratic institutions.
CDA News Nigeria independently verified that these are allegations and demands made by the ADC. As of the time of filing this report, INEC and the Nigeria Police Force had not publicly responded to the party’s claims.
