In a dramatic and deeply symbolic moment, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara — himself a recent political target of fierce APC internal battles — stepped forward as the State Collation Officer for the APC Presidential Primary Election in Rivers State on Saturday, formally declaring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) the overwhelming winner of the exercise across all 23 local government areas of the state.
Fubara announced that Tinubu garnered a total of 280,082 votes in the exercise, while his sole opponent, businessman Stanley Osifo, did not record a single vote across the entire state, adding that the figures announced accurately represented results collated from all 23 LGAs. The Sun Nigeria
The governor stated that while the APC had a total of 297,068 registered members recognised as legitimate voters for the primary, the number of those accredited and who participated in the election was 280,082 — and every single accredited voter cast their ballot for President Tinubu.
Making the formal declaration, Fubara stated: “I, Siminalayi Fubara, who is serving as State Collation Officer, hereby certify that the information contained in my spreadsheets represents the true, correct, and accurate record of the summary of results from the 23 local government areas.”
The governor expressed genuine delight at the peaceful and seamless conduct of the exercise, attributing its success to good planning by the party: “I feel that this process has recorded one of the most organised outings of our great party in recent times. The only reason it came out this way has to do with good planning. In all, I want to say that I’m really impressed with the process.”
A breakdown of results showed that Obio/Akpor Local Government Area recorded the highest number of votes for Tinubu with 28,680 votes, followed by Port Harcourt City with 17,522 votes and Khana with 17,085 votes.
Governor Fubara’s role as State Collation Officer — and his warm commendation of the exercise — is being widely interpreted as a significant step toward a political détente in Rivers State, signalling a new chapter in the turbulent relationship between the governor and the APC leadership in the state.
