Kano State lawmaker, Muhammad Tomas, has dumped the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and made a dramatic return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a development that further reshapes the political landscape of one of Nigeria’s most electorally significant states.
Tomas’s defection back to the APC is seen as a major boost for the ruling party’s structure in Kano State, as the APC continues to consolidate its political base ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 general elections.
The lawmaker’s return to the APC is believed to have been influenced by a combination of factors, including growing disillusionment with the NDC’s internal politics, the APC’s expanding influence across Kano State, and strategic political calculations ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
Speaking on his decision, Tomas is said to have expressed confidence that the APC remains the most viable platform through which he can effectively serve his constituents and contribute meaningfully to the development of Kano State.
His defection deals a fresh blow to the NDC’s structures in Kano, coming at a time when political parties across Nigeria are intensifying efforts to shore up their membership and electoral machinery ahead of 2027.
Political observers in Kano note that Tomas’s return to the APC could trigger further defections from opposition parties in the state, as the ruling party’s momentum continues to grow across the north.
