The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared invalid all political party primaries conducted after the May 30 deadline set for the nomination of candidates.

The commission said political parties were duly informed of the timetable and schedule of activities ahead of the elections and were expected to conclude their primaries within the approved period.

According to INEC, any primary election conducted beyond the stipulated deadline will not be recognized for the purpose of candidate nomination. The commission emphasized that compliance with electoral regulations is essential to ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process.

The development is expected to affect political parties that failed to complete their nomination processes before the deadline. Electoral stakeholders have urged affected parties to seek lawful remedies within the framework of the Electoral Act.

INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections while ensuring that all political parties adhere to established guidelines and timelines.
