First batch of Nigerians repatriated from S’Africa arrives Thursday

The first batch of Nigerian citizens who registered for voluntary evacuation from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks will arrive in the country on Thursday, the Federal Government has confirmed.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), an airlift arranged by the government is expected to land at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by 10:00 am on June 11, 2026.

“The flight will carry approximately 250 evacuees, including women, children, the elderly, and those with medical conditions. Reception and temporary accommodation have been arranged,” NiDCOM said.

Over 2,800 Nigerians registered for the evacuation exercise following attacks on foreign-owned businesses in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. Additional batches will be airlifted in the coming weeks.

The Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria has been working with South African authorities to ensure smooth departure procedures.

Evacuees have been advised to cooperate with officials upon arrival and undergo necessary documentation. The government has pledged continued support for all returning citizens.
