Repel Boko Haram Attack

MAIDUGURI – In a decisive counter-terrorism operation, Nigerian troops successfully repelled an early morning attack by Boko Haram fighters on a military base in northern Borno State on Tuesday.

The insurgents attempted to invade the Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Kangarwa, Mallamfatori, at approximately 4:30 a.m. using armed drones and mortars. The assault was met with fierce resistance from troops of Operation Hadin Kai, who were reinforced by the Nigerien Air Force.

A military source confirmed that the joint forces neutralized scores of terrorists during the failed attack. A subsequent clearance operation led to the recovery of several weapons, including AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and hand grenades. Several other insurgents were reportedly neutralized by follow-up airstrikes as they retreated.

While some soldiers and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members sustained injuries, officials reported that all are in stable condition. Military authorities stated that troops’ morale remains high as exploitation and patrols continue in the area.

This operation marks a significant setback for the terrorist group in the ongoing conflict in the Lake Chad region.
