A political analyst, Comrade Kasarachi Sunday, has raised strong concerns over emerging political alignments and recent appointments in Abia State, warning that they may pose a significant threat to the current administration in the 2027 general elections.
In a detailed analysis circulated online, Sunday pointed to the recent meeting between the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, and influential business figures like Obi Cubana and Don Lulu. He noted that while it was announced that “something big is coming,” the defection of such influential young entrepreneurs to the APC—instead of aligning with the state government—signals a deliberate political build-up that could challenge the ruling party in Abia.
“Do we realize that these prominent businessmen have joined APC, especially in Abia, after seeing what the governor is doing to reposition the state?” Sunday asked. “They control immense influence among the youths, and with Governor Alex Otti not yet having built a comparable financial war chest of loyalists, they could become a weapon formed against us in 2027.”
The analyst also applied “Politics 101” principles to highlight the risk posed by former political associates of past administrations who have been appointed into Otti’s government. He argued that political loyalty often remains with one’s original benefactor, suggesting that such appointees might still acknowledge former governors as their political bosses, regardless of current party affiliation.
Furthermore, Sunday cited “Politics 102,” emphasizing that political office holders must deliver their polling units and wards during elections. He expressed worry that a large percentage of Otti’s appointees are technocrats with limited grassroots presence, having spent many years abroad.
“In a situation where 95% of political appointees are technocrats who have been abroad for donkey years without interfacing with their people, how can such people deliver during elections?” he questioned.
While congratulating Obi Cubana on his new political movement, Sunday cautioned against promising APC the support of Southeast youth, asserting that “Abia State is in safe hands.”
The analysis has sparked conversations among political observers in the state, with many noting the early preparations for the next election cycle.
