Nigerian households may soon enjoy further relief as the price of cooking gas, also known as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), continues to decline in several parts of the country following improved product supply.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that retail prices have started falling after weeks of sharp increases, with industry stakeholders attributing the reduction to improved availability of LPG, lower depot prices, and increased supply into the domestic market.
Reports indicate that cooking gas, which recently sold for as much as ₦2,000 per kilogram in some locations, is now retailing between ₦1,100 and ₦1,500 per kilogram, depending on the state, dealer, and transportation costs. The price reduction, however, has not been uniform nationwide.
Industry experts say the downward trend is expected to continue if supply remains stable. The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) has also expressed optimism that prices could decline further in the coming months if government measures to improve local supply and imports are sustained.
Consumers have welcomed the development, describing it as timely amid the rising cost of living, while marketers have urged the government to maintain policies that encourage stable supply and affordable pricing.
