Ballistic Missiles, Drones Rain on US Facilities as Iran Opens New Front

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched missile and drone attacks on US military installations in Jordan and Bahrain early Wednesday, marking a dramatic escalation in the Middle East conflict .

The IRGC claimed it targeted the US Al-Azraq air base in eastern Jordan with long-range missiles, striking four locations including F-35 fighter jet hangars and a command centre . Iranian forces also reportedly attacked the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain using drones .

The strikes came in retaliation for US military operations against Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington said were a response to Iran’s downing of a US Apache helicopter on Tuesday .

Jordan’s armed forces said its air defence systems intercepted five Iranian missiles, with debris falling but no casualties reported . Kuwait also activated air defences against what it described as “hostile aerial targets” .

A US official told Reuters that initial assessments showed nearly all Iranian missiles and drones were intercepted, with no reports of US casualties or damage to American facilities .

The escalation has shattered a fragile ceasefire that had been in place since April 8 .
