Iran in Turmoil: Economic Collapse Sparks Widespread Revolt Against Regime

INTERNATIONAL DESK – Iran is facing a nationwide uprising described by analysts as a “full revolt,” fueled by catastrophic inflation, chronic blackouts, and severe shortages. The unrest, spreading across major cities, is increasingly seen as a direct challenge to the foundations of the Islamic Republic.

Protests in Tehran, Mashhad, and Kermanshah have featured chants of “Death to the dictator,” the burning of regime buildings, and women publicly discarding hijabs. Security forces have responded with live ammunition, reportedly killing at least 34 protesters. The movement has been amplified by crippling strikes that have shut down bazaars, trucking networks, and key factories.

The crisis is systemic. The national currency, the rial, has collapsed to approximately 1,445,000 per US dollar. Concurrent water and power failures have exacerbated public fury, while empty mosques point to a rapid secularization. Significantly, the regime’s traditional base of support, including bazaar merchants, is now joining the opposition.

“The regime’s pillars are failing,” warned one regional analyst. Protesters have been seen waving Iran’s pre-1979 monarchist flag and calling for military defections, signaling a potential point of no return.

The regime, which has spent billions confronting Israel and funding proxy forces abroad, now appears financially bankrupt and overstretched at home. The international community is watching closely, with the U.S. repositioning forces, Europe under diplomatic pressure, and Israel viewing the chaos as a strategic opening.

A revolution in Iran would redraw the geopolitical map of the Middle East, likely crippling allies like Hezbollah and isolating the Houthis. Analysts conclude the country has entered a phase of irreversible political territory.
