YENAGOA – In a significant political defection, Dr. Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, a former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dr. Dudafa, who also previously served in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, announced his decision in a statement issued to journalists in Yenagoa on Tuesday.
His resignation from the PDP was formalized in a letter addressed to the party chairman of his Southern Opokuma/Ayibabiri Ward 8 in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
Explaining his move, Dudafa stated it was the result of deep reflection and extensive consultations with his political associates, supporters, and family.
He expressed gratitude for his time in the PDP but cited the party’s persistent internal crises as the primary reason for his departure.
“The unresolved disputes have significantly impeded our ability to move forward and created an environment of conflict that’s no longer conducive to advancing our shared values and objectives,” Dudafa said.
He emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly, adding, “Throughout my time with the party, I have been deeply committed to our shared values and goals, and it has been an honour to work with so many dedicated individuals.”
Dudafa, widely regarded as a political son to former President Goodluck Jonathan, confirmed his defection to the ruling APC.
He urged his supporters to remain united and focused as they embark on this new political journey.
This move is seen as a notable gain for the APC in the oil-rich Niger Delta region, potentially influencing the political landscape in Bayelsa State ahead of future elections.
