APC NWC Intervenes in Cross River Crisis, Summons Chairman Alphonsus Eba

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has intervened in the escalating crisis within the party’s Cross River State chapter, overturning an attempt to remove the state chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba.

The NWC, in a letter dated December 4, 2025, described a recent vote of no confidence passed by the State Executive Committee (SEC) as unconstitutional. The national leadership has summoned Eba to appear before it on Monday, December 8, to formally address the allegations.

The summons aims to ensure due process is followed amid factional tensions. Some SEC members had recently announced Eba’s removal, a move he dismissed as illegal and “a joke taken too far.”

The crisis stems from longstanding accusations from some chapter officials, who allege Eba of high-handedness and financial misconduct. Eba has countered, accusing the officials of diverting over N60 million and receiving millions monthly from political appointees.

The intervention by the NWC is seen as an attempt to stabilize the party in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections. Eba, a member of the APC’s national constitution review committee, maintains that the push to oust him is politically motivated.
