ENUGU/ABUJA – Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s Southeast geopolitical zone have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, pledging to deliver massive regional votes in the 2027 general elections.
The resolution was reached at a high-level Southeast APC Stakeholders’ Meeting held in Enugu on Saturday, attended by governors, federal lawmakers, party elders, and critical leaders from the zone’s five states.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who is also the Director-General of the APC 2027 election project, framed the endorsement as both an honour and a strategic necessity. He highlighted the region’s historically low contribution to the APC’s 2023 victory as politically unsustainable, noting that enhanced representation in the National Assembly must now translate to ballot-box strength.
“Politics is pay as you earn. The growth we see among leaders must reflect at the ballot box in 2027,” Uzodimma stated, urging the zone to move away from provincial voting patterns.
Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, described the alignment as a “paradigm shift grounded in pragmatism,” citing tangible federal projects like the revival of the Eastern Railway corridor and the development of gas infrastructure as benefits of cooperation with the centre.
“The decision to support Tinubu’s re-election is rooted in facts, vision, and the tangible benefits already accruing to the region,” Mbah asserted.
The communiqué issued at the end of the meeting declared unanimous and total support for President Tinubu as the APC’s sole candidate for 2027. It rejected divisive politics and called on the Igbo populace nationwide to unite under the APC platform to advance the region’s interests.
The motion for endorsement was moved by former Senate President Pius Anyim and seconded by ex-Senate President Ken Nnamani, with Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi expressing confidence that all Southeast governors would be APC members by 2027.
