OSOGBO, NIGERIA – A member of the Osun State House of Assembly has withdrawn his resignation from the Accord Party, just hours after announcing his departure from the party in a dramatic reversal.
The lawmaker, whose decision had initially sparked speculation about a possible defection to another political platform, issued a new statement on Monday recanting his earlier resignation. He cited consultations with constituents and party leaders as reasons for his change of heart.
“After due consideration and consultations with my people and party stakeholders, I have decided to withdraw my resignation and remain in the Accord Party,” the lawmaker stated.
The initial resignation had generated buzz in Osun political circles, with many interpreting it as a sign of cracks in the party’s structure ahead of upcoming elections. However, the swift reversal has left observers questioning the stability of the lawmaker’s political alignment.
The Accord Party leadership welcomed the decision, expressing relief and calling for unity among members. The party’s state chairman described the development as a victory for internal conflict resolution mechanisms.
The lawmaker assured his constituents that he remains committed to delivering good governance and urged them to disregard earlier reports of his exit.
