NDC Primaries Were Transparent, Not for Highest Bidders — Dickson Speaks Out

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has denied allegations that the party sold its tickets to the highest bidders during the recent primary elections.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Abuja, Dickson dismissed claims by Kenneth Okonkwo that House of Representatives aspirants paid N10 million and senatorial aspirants N20 million for tickets at the behest of party leaders, including presidential candidate Peter Obi.

“The NDC did not sell tickets to the highest bidders. Our primaries were conducted transparently, and candidates emerged based on merit, consensus where possible, and adherence to party guidelines,” Dickson stated.

He challenged anyone with evidence of bribery to present it to the relevant authorities rather than resorting to media trials.

Okonkwo had earlier released alleged WhatsApp chats to back his claims, insisting that aspirants were forced to pay “illegal fees” to secure tickets. Obi’s legal team has threatened a N5 billion defamation suit over the allegations.

Dickson called for calm and urged party members to focus on reconciliation and the task of unseating the ruling APC in 2027.
